To commemorate the game's opening, we've set up this intro mingle post to help you guys get settled in. NPCs might even pop in from time to time to guide your characters along or make their school life harder. Even so, we hope you have fun and enjoy!

Anyway, bloody hell, I hope this doesn't mean she's involved. Letting one of her girls just run off into something like this doesn't sound like her at all. How old are you, dear?

[ Merida snorts, but England's comments intrigue her and her attention is soon diverted to matters more important than their petty squabble. ]

And who exactly would "she" be? I don't suppose you know my mother?

I'm sixteen.

I know your motherland. That's close enough. Well, I'm sure if she was here she would have made herself known, so as long as we're abroad you'll have to be my responsibility. Shouldn't be too much fuss, just enjoy yourself and avoid causing trouble, understood? Sixteen is far too young for a lady to be out on her own.

[righinn]

My motherland? I take it you've been to Alba, then --

[ but that last suggestion induces a scowl from the redhead. ]

Och, you definitely know my mother too if you're already saying that I can't manage meself.

It's merely inappropriate, dear, don't fuss. I'm sure we'll get along splendidly so long as you manage to control yourself. Can't have you letting down the side, that's all. Now stand up straight and don't scowl so, you'll give yourself wrinkles.

[righinn]

[ don't, don't, don't. It's almost as though her mother never left. ]

What's not to fuss about when your talk is exactly the same sort that drove me to -

[ she pauses and clears her throat; maybe it's best to avoid discussing her, erm, previous magical blunders for now. ]

Never mind. I'll control myself if you do.

[Raises her eyebrow, taking note of that little outburst.] I am entirely controlled and well-mannered, dear, kindly don't imply otherwise.

Now, we might as well formally introduce ourselves, though I'm sure you can at least guess at my name. You may call me Miss England or Miss Kirkland, whichever you prefer. I don't want to have to refer to you as "that Scottish lass with the wild hair" for the duration of this adventure, so what is your name, dear?

[righinn]

[ Merida begins to mutter "aye, of course you are" to herself, only to stop when she hears England's name for the first time. ]

England? You said your name was Miss … England?

[ Merida is so flabbergasted that she takes a moment to gape at the woman before her rather than introduce herself in return as she should. ]

Hm? Yes, dear, of course I am. [Isn't it obvious?] That's what I meant about knowing Scotland- or Alba, if you insist on calling her that. She's my sister. Of course, normally I'd leave hers to her, but while she's not here I might as well step up. It's all Britain, after all.

[righinn]

So your parents named you in honor of your homelands, then?

[ is that a timbre of pity in her voice? i think so. ]

[mayshereign]

Not quite, dear, I am my homeland. I represent the country of England, as well as the United Kingdoms of Great Britain and- and Northern Ireland. [Let's avoid dwelling on that pause] That includes Scotland, by the way.

[righinn]

Crivens, lass! [ Merida is a few centuries behind the times, so please forgive her for the upcoming barrage of questions: ] The United Kingdoms of Great Britain? Northern Ireland? And you're representing the lot of them?

As queen?

[ or, at least, that is the image that springs to mind when she hears of a person acting as the representative of a country. ]

Well, since that rotten bastard buggered off, yes- [no wait no] Oh, good god, not as queen! No, I serve the royal family, in a way. The King is my "boss" sort of.

Haven't you ever met my sister? You can think of me as the very essence of England, dear. The people, the land, the history, all that rot. I also represent Britain on the world stage, but mostly because my sisters decided I deserved the paperwork the most.

[righinn]

Can't say I have, no, or else I wouldn't be putting all these questions about this union and this Northern Ireland and this representative business to you.

[mayshereign]

Don't you read the papers? It was all sorted out quite recently. And if you're about to start complaining about the union, I'll tell you right now that I am not in the mood. Had quite enough of that nonsense for a little while, especially from your lot.

[righinn]

How can I complain about a union I never even knew existed until today?

[ because scotland was still independent the last time she checked. ]

... You don't know about the union of Great Britain? The United Kingdom?

[righinn]

That'd be what I just said.

... But you live in it!

The only kingdom I live in is DunBroch in the land of Alba.

Well, maybe in Gaelic but hardly in civilised society! [OH BURN sorry, Scotland, wherever you are, she's just in a mood.] Look, Scotland, England and Wales have been united as one nation for centuries now!
